■ Nairobi: Nairobi has the first national park of Kenya – Nairobi National Park, in the south-eastern sector of the city of wilderness suburb populated exclusively by free-ranging wild animals. It happened because Nairobi was sited at the western edge of the Athi Plains, which used to be populated by fauna almost as numerous as in the Mara-Serengeti. ■ Ballon Safaris: ballon safaris have now become a major attraction for many visitors in Kenya. Several other lodges and camps in Mara offer flights as an optional tour. Although flights operate all year around, the optimum time to balloon on the Mara is the Mara is from July to mid-September during the annual wildebeest migration.
