There is something about Greece that draws travelers to this ancient land time and time again. More often than not this draw is intangible, spiritual or even physical. It is often all three at once. The very word “Greece” instantly evokes a connection with a glorious past – the home of democracy, the Olympic Games, the earliest European literature, the Acropolis, the Spartans, the Mycenaean and the Minoans.
Sightseeing in Greece
■ Athens: First stop is the Acropolis, then wind your way down to the Ancient Agora and the Plaka distinct, where its Roman and Byzantine and Ottoman past coexist with modern city life. ■ Mykonos: Mykonos’ most famous church, located beyond the Delos Ferry Quay on the way to Little Venice, is the Panagia Paraportiani. It is actually five small churches amalgamated, in classical Byzantine style, into one asymmetrical entity, looking as if it has grown from the rocky ground.
