Slovenia & Croatia

Croatia has decades of experience in welcoming travelers. You can swim in the pristine waters of the Adriatic, feasted on fresh seafood in beachside restaurants, sipped coffees across the country, passed languid weeks in the picturesque villages of Istria, and partied all night in Zagreb, Split and Rijeka. Croatians retain a strong attachment to the land and traditions that nourished the dream of independence for so long. Even as a tide of speculators and developers wash ashore, there is a real commitment to preserving the extraordinary beauty of the coast.

Sightseeing in Croatia

Zagreb: Zagreb is a fascinating destination on its own, combining the best of Eastern and Western Europe. As the political, economic and cultural capital of Croatia, the city throbs with energy but has retained a good deal of old-world graciousness. The sober Austro-Hungarian buildings in the town centre house elegant restaurants and fashionable boutiques along with scruffy pubs and rowdy beer halls. A proliferation of galleries display the works of the artistic community, a parade of international stars perform in the concert halls, and local DJs fill clubs with the latest sounds.

Slavonia: Slavonia provides a landscape nearly untouched by tourism, with some unique wonders. The park of Kopacki Rit is one of Europe’s finest ornithological reserves and most of the time it’s just you and the birds.

Istria: sometimes called the “new Tuscany”, Istria’s scenic interior is beginning to attract artists and artisands to its hilltop villages, the rugged and indented coastline is enormously popular with the sun n sea set.

Activities in Croatia

Diving: The varied underwater topography of the Croatian coast has spurred a growing diving industry. From Istria to Dubrovnik, nearly every coastal resort has a dive centre, usually German-owned.

Rock climbing: The karstic stone of Croatia’s coast provides excellent climbing opportunities. Paklenica National Park has the widest range of routes for all levels of experience.
