Argentina

Argentina is such a friendly place. The thundering falls of lguazu, the Jesuit ruins of Misiones province, and the sunburst adobe villages of the Andean northwest are all, quite simply, astounding. Further south, in the Central Andes, you can climb the America’s highest peaks in summer and board through powder in winter. Lower your latitude and explore the Valdivian forests of the Lake Districts, of trek beneath the fantastic granite spires of the Fitz Roy Range. Finally, you reach the end of the world, Tierra del Fuego, where windswept fjords draw you into their mystical spell and Magellanic penguins wobble across lonely windswept shorelines.

Sightseeing in Argentina

Buenos Aires: Buenos Aires is buzzing with newfound energy. This elegant yet rough-edged city welcomes intrepid travelers looking for something different but strangely familiar, it looks forward to meeting those keen to experience the unpredictable passions of a faraway destination slowly being discovered by more and more lucky souls.

The Pampas & the Atlantic Coast: The coastline is where most tourists come to play in the summer months, when the city empties out and resort towns like Mar del Plata, Necochea and Pinamar shake off their off-season tranquility and spring to life.

The Andean Northwest: Argentina’s most “traditional” region, the Noroeste Andino consist of the provinces of Jujuy, Salta, Tucuman, La Rioja, Catamarca and Santiago del Estero, all of which had thriving cities when Buenos Aires was still an insignificant hinterland. Today, these cities vary from the brash and energetic Tucuman to the gracious tourist headquarters of Salta.

Activities in Argentina

Fishing: Patagonia and the Lake District together constitute one of the world’s premier fly-fishing destinations, where introduced trout species and landlocked Atlantic salmon reach massive sizes in cold rivers surrounded by spectacular scenery.

Mountaineering: The Andes are a mountain climber’s dream, especially in San Juan and Mendoza provinces, where the highest peaks are found. While the most famous climb is Aconcagua, the highest peak in the Americas, there are plenty of others in the Andes, many of the m more interesting and far more technical.

Cycling: Cycling has become a popular activity and geared-out Argentine cyclists are a common site on the road. Both road and mountain bikes are common, but the latter are indispensable for riding on bad roads in remote areas. The best areas for relatively scenic spins are Mendoza and the Lake District.
