Morocco has always been a crossroads of Africa, Europe and the Middle East and nowhere evokes this sense more than Tangier. The faded poster boy for Europe's presence - often decadent but sometimes creative - on Moroccon shores, Tangier is most people's introduction to the country. Turn south along Mrocco's Atlantic coast and you'll be accompanied by Casablanca, Asilah, Rabat - and atmosphere carry a strong whiff of African magic. Travel east along Morocco's Mediterranean coast and you'll be bidden into enchanted towns like Tetouan and Chefchaouen, and the mountains fo the Rif.
Sightseeing in Morocco
■ Tangier: More thanany other city, Tangier has been Morocco's face to the world for more years than anyone cares to remember. Its strategic location on the narrow strait that separates Africa from Europe has been coveted and controlled by a seemingly endless procession of empires and kingdoms. ■ Rabat: Relaxed, well kept and very European, flag-waving Rabat is just as cosmopolitan as its economic big briother down the coast, but lacks the frantic pace and grimy feel of Casablanca. ■ Marrakesh: Capital of the south and the epicentre of Moroccan tourism, Marrakesh is changing fast. Once the hub of camel caravans from the south, the oasis was the finest city many traders had ever seen.
